UNB, DhakaPolice today detained 20 Myanmar nationals while demonstrating in front of Indian High Commission in Gulshan to press freedom of 34 Myanmar politicians languishing in Indian jails.
Gulshan police said they picked up the Myanmar nationals, including a few children, at about 11:00am following a complaint lodged by the Indian High Commission.
“They’re now in police custody,” said a police official. Saw Mra Raza Linn, presidium member of Women League of Burma, told journalists that the Myanmar nationals were staging peaceful demonstration as part of their worldwide programme.
They have been staging demonstrations in front of Indian High Commissions on this day every year since the Indian government arrested 34 Burmese political leaders in 1997.
