About Arakan Information Website
Background
Rakhapura.com: Arakan Information Website first appeared on the internet in 1999 with the name “Arakan Information Homepage”. It was first hosted on a free web host service provided by Homepage.com. Since the first day when Arakan Information Homepage was unleashed on the waiting internet community, it has received unbelievable support and appreciation from many Arakanese people as well as foreigners who are interested in Arakanese and Burmese affairs. The site has moved to Angelfire Free Hosting as the Homepage.com closed in 2000 and its design and content has also undergone several changes throughout these years in order to meet the demand of the readers and supporters. In August 2001, it eventually arrived to its permanent home as Rakhapura.com: Arakan Information Website at the URL www.rakhapura.com.
Aims
Till early 1999, there was no website run by Arakanese on the internet to represent the Arakanese community and provide adequate and reliable information about Arakan. There were some websites providing information about Arakan like www.arakan.org and www.rohingya.org (published by ARNO). But most of their contents were against the Arakanese people and one could easily misunderstand the real identity of Arakanese people and the true history of Arakan.
Therefore, I got an initial idea to make a website for the common interest of promoting awareness about my fatherland, Arakan and the Arakanese people; its history, culture and political affairs which are desperately demolished and Burmanized by chains of Burmese military rulers and other foreign miscreants. Therefore, I created this website to deliver true and reliable information to the international community who wish to know the truth about Arakan. On the other hand, I believe that sharing information among all the ethnic nationalities of Burma and throughout the world will somehow be helpful to achieve mutual understanding between them.
Rakhapura.com will:
- Promote, protect and preserve the true history of Arakan and Burma.
- Publish true and reliable news and information.
- Acquire the permission of the author/publisher before publishing any news/article if contact information is available.
- Remove any of its contents if the author/publisher requests.
- Not promote any contents that are related to pornography, anti-social, anti-religious, hateful, racial, connected to drugs, or illegal activities of any kind.
Achievement
Till a few years back, there was no true information available if one searched for the keyword, ‘Arakan’ on the internet. The returned search results were filled with links to fabricated stories created by the so-called Rohingyas. But, today, Rakhapura.com has listed at the top of the top 20 Search results page for the key words; Arakan, Rakhine or Rakhaing on most popular Search engines like Yahoo! and Google, etc. One can find almost everything there to know about Arakan on this website and one could not be denied that this site has the distinction of being the first comprehensive site on Arakan on the web. Research scholars and journalists around the world who are interested in the western Burma region are specially benefited from Rakhapura.com. It has been accepted as a reliable source provider on Arakan and western Burma by Asia & International media groups.
Future Plan
The Arakanese living in Arakan (Rakhine state of Burma) are still in the dark under the brutal military junta of Burma. Besides, they have been bullied, harassed and mistreated by the foreigners who have illegally migrated to their land from the neighbouring over-populated Bangladesh. As financial and technical assistance from the oil rich nations have pushed them to the far forward stage of today’s information technology era, their propaganda about so-called Rohingya as one of the ethnic minorities of Burma has been wildly spread on the internet. False and twisted history of Arakan, in which Arakan was mentioned as a Muslim dominated state since thousands of years ago, have been distributed by the so-called Rohingyas even though all Arakanese are devout Buddhists since the time Lord Buddha was alive. The Arakanese people inside Burma are hardly aware of their propaganda due to lack of access to the internet and other international media.
Therefore, as Rakhapura.com, at its level best, has always been advocating for Arakanese cause in various forms, it will carry on its service of providing true information about Arakan and Arakanese people as well as quality entertainment services to all Arakanese people around the world.
Moreover, while the Burmese junta is trying to eradicate all of the opposition democratic elements including Arakanese and other ethnic nationalities of Burma by using divide-and-rule policy, Rakhapura.com will serve as an Arakanese peoples' forum as part of the movement for genuine democracy and human rights in Arakan and Burma.
As a final word, it should honestly be stated that the aim of the creation of this website is simply a patriotic contribution to my fatherland, Arakan. It is not in any form concerned with any political or armed organizations and is totally non-profit making. I've spent many hours and sleepless nights into making this website and I intend to keep on improving it, with more credible news and information particularly on Arakan (Rakhaing-pray or Rakhine state of present Burma) and generally on Burma, until all your wishes are fulfilled.
